A typical case involves a 16-year-old male patient who was admitted to the hospital due to chest pain, coughing, and difficulty in breathing during exertion. The patient revealed that he had recently used an e-cigarette with his friends. He mistakenly believed that e-cigarettes were safer than traditional cigarettes, but in reality, he was misinformed by his friends.
The patient underwent blood and sputum tests, as well as a chest CT scan, conducted by medical professionals. The results indicated widespread infection and damage in the lower region of the right lung. The initial diagnosis given by the doctors was pneumonia, with suspicion that it may have been caused by the use of e-cigarettes. The patient received antibiotic treatment, expectorant medication, and respiratory rehabilitation therapy. After undergoing a course of treatment, his symptoms have improved and the damage to his lungs has shown signs of recovery. He continues to receive ongoing care and regular check-ups at home.
Respiratory department director Bui Manh Cuong stated, “The condition of the patient has presented complex changes. Despite their young age and absence of any underlying health issues, their lungs have been severely damaged, akin to that of an elderly individual. We have had to employ various treatment measures in order to safeguard the patient’s lung function to the fullest extent possible.

Its structure includes a battery, a tobacco chamber, and a container for storing e-liquid. When using an e-cigarette, the battery provides energy to burn the e-liquid in the chamber, causing it to evaporate. In addition, it contains nicotine, addictive substances, flavoring agents, and hundreds of other chemicals. More dangerously, e-cigarettes can also be abused for the use of marijuana and other addictive substances.
