Collaboration between PMI and Ferrari E-Lab for Carbon Reduction Technology

PMI and Ferrari E-Lab join forces to explore new energy technologies for reducing carbon emissions in Maranello and Crespellano facilities.

According to Italian media outlet Panorama, Philip Morris International (PMI) is set to collaborate with Ferrari E-Lab to integrate the technological capabilities of both companies in order to search for and explore new energy technologies that will help reduce carbon emissions in their production facilities in Maranello and Crespellano.

 

The aim of this partnership is to seek out solutions that contribute to industrial electrification, involving the production, storage, and conversion of renewable energy. The first study will investigate the feasibility of long-term energy storage technologies, with completion expected in the third quarter of 2024.

 

The Crespellano factory of Philip Morris International is located near the city of Bologna.

 

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has expressed interest in further developing collaboration with Philip Morris International as the two companies mark their 50th anniversary of partnership. Vigna stated that both companies are keen to explore new technological solutions within an open innovation framework, particularly in regard to enhancing energy utilization in their industrial processes. He emphasized the potential for learning from the expertise of high-level teams across various industries.

 

Jacek Olczak, CEO of Philip Morris International, has expressed his enthusiasm for a new chapter in the long-standing partnership between his company and Ferrari. He stated that both organizations share a passion for innovation and have established new areas of collaboration.

 

Scott Coutts, Senior Vice President of Philip Morris International, added, “We look forward to collaborating with Ferrari, while continuing to execute our strategy and focus on three main areas in reducing carbon emissions: reducing fossil fuel consumption, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and offsetting unavoidable emissions. We are particularly interested in exploring the potential role of industrial electrification in our strategy.

 

Ferrari aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
